Amsterdam Jewish District Tour

On this 4 hour private tour in the Amsterdam Jewish district you learn about more than 400 years of Judaism in the city. Since the 16th century Amsterdam has housed a huge Jewish community. Let a local guide explain why the Jewish community called Amsterdam their ‘New Jerusalem’.

Jewish Legacy

How did World War II affect the Jewish district and what is left of the Jewish heritage today, like the Yiddish language and the typical Jewish sense of humor? Get the answers on the Amsterdam Jewish District Tour.

Portuguese Synagogue

Once the world’s largest synagogue, now still in its original 17th century state. We visit this monumental complex and its treasury, just outside of the building.

Hollandsche Schouwburg

From here the rounded up Jewish population awaited the transport to the concentration camps. Now it’s the National Holocaust Memorial. A place for reflexion.

Waterlooplein Flea Market

The flea market with strong Jewish roots on the former island Vlooienburg, hench the Dutch nickname Vlooienmarkt (flea market)

Amsterdam Jewish culture

During the tour we will introduce you to several known and lesser known Jewish residents of Amsterdam. People who have shaped the city: Philosopher Baruch Spinoza, Zionist Jacob Israel De Haan, Doctor Samuel Sarphati, Socialist Henri Polak, The family Wertheim, the Premsela and Asscher
